The Alma Garcia Early College High School Scholarship was created to assist any Early College High School (ECHS) graduate who has the desire and ambition to continue their post-secondary studies in an institution of higher education after high school graduation. This scholarship will provide students who have completed 50 or more hours of college-level courses by high school graduation the opportunity to compete for one or more $500 Early College High School scholarships.

Alma Garcia was a founding Program Officer at Educate Texas - a public/private initiative of Communities Foundation of Texas. She joined the team in 2004 as the leader of the Early College High School initiative during the launch of the Texas High School Project. In partnership with the Texas Education Agency and key foundation partners, Alma helped create over 150 Early College High Schools serving more than 35,000 students, the majority of whom are first generation. Thanks in large part to Alma's vision and leadership, Educate Texas has created the largest public-private network of Early College High Schools in the United States. In all major categories of student achievement, college enrollment and post-secondary completion, Early College students are exceeding state averages.

CFT and Educate Texas are grateful to Alma for her innumerous contributions and lasting legacy, and are proud to support the creation of this scholarship.
