Thomas P. Lang Memorial FundThomas Lang and Steve Dutton were attacked on September 7, 2016 after buying coffee in downtown Miami, while walking home with their two dogs, by a man who is mentally ill and homeless. It was later determined upon the man's arrest that he has an extensive prior arrest record for violent behavior and even served 8 years for killing a man in a similar attack in the late 1990s.

Unfortunately, Thomas suffered extensive brain injury as a result of the attach and he died subsequent to surgery on Sept. 10, 2016 at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

Steve has created the Thomas P. Lang, Jr. Memorial Fund at the Communities Foundation of Texas to raise financial support for the projects he envisions. All the funds raised will be available for grants and charitable distributions that are dedicated to the mission of positively impacting the homeless in Fort Worth, Texas and in Miami, Florida through the creation of more housing options, and needed support services, for persons experiencing homelessness.
